  14. SYMPTOMS
  15. ========

  17. Invalid UDP frames directed to any computer running WINS raises an
  18. exception in WINS causing it to terminate silently. When WINS is no longer
  19. running, problems such as domain synchronization, browsing, or connectivity
  20. may occur. The event log may contain the following error message:
  21.  
  22.    Event ID: 4119
  23.    Source  : WINS
  24.    Type    : Error
  25.  
  26.    Description:
  27.  
  28.    WINS got a packet that has the wrong format (for example, a label may be
  29.    more than 63 octets).
  30.  
  31. RESOLUTION
  32. ==========
  33.  
  34. To resolve this problem, obtain the hotfix below, or wait for the next
  35. service pack.
  36.  
  37. Microsoft has updated Wins.exe to correct this problem. If WINS receives
  38. invalid frames, it logs the event mentioned above but it does not terminate
  39. unexpectedly.
  40.  
  41. NOTE: Service Pack 3 must be applied to Windows NT 4.0 prior to applying
  42. this fix.

  52. Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Windows NT version 4.0.
  53. A supported fix is now available, but has not been fully regression-tested
  54. and should be applied only to systems experiencing this specific problem.
  55. Unless you are severely impacted by this specific problem, Microsoft
  56. recommends that you wait for the next Service Pack that contains this fix.
